Recommended Reading Although these are not the “normal” book recommendations for mothers-to-be, I have found the following titles to be the absolute most useful and instrumental books for single women who have decided to continue on the unorthodox path of pregnancy and parenting without a partner. The following books will help you to maximize your physical and emotional health (and that of your baby) through your diet, your sociological and political awareness, and your spiritual strength. Please read the comments I have made and strongly consider investing in these books. If you cannot afford to purchase these books new, always check the prices of used copies from Amazon.com or your local used book store. Amazon.com links to these titles have been provided for your convenience.
Did you know that 70% of what’s available in our supermarkets is Genetically Engineered (including all major non-organic brands of infant formula), and that both you and your baby will be physically, mentally, and emotionally healthier and stronger if you learn to avoid Genetically Engineered foods? Please educate yourself on these significant health risks by investing in these titles: Seeds of Deception: Exposing Government and Industry Lies about the Genetically Engineered Foods You’re Eating By Jeffrey M. Smith Genetic Roulette: The Documented Health Risks of Genetically Engineered Foods By Jeffrey M. Smith
No doubt your experience being single and pregnant will increase your awareness of how our society devalues single women, particularly mothers. If you would like to know more about the myths of single pregnancy and parenting, pick up this excellent book. Many single pregnant women feel spiritually deflated after deciding to continue with an unsupported pregnancy. Due to condemnation and judgment from those who claim to “know” God, it is understandable that many single mothers-to-be might even feel abandoned by their religions, or even by God himself. If you are having a hard time feeling spiritually supported by your community, read this book. It will help you to know that you are loved and supported by the divine, and that you are never alone. Mad Cow USA By Sheldon Rampton and John Stauber
Former BET personality Malonda Richard has written My Life Isn’t Perfect But thank God My Baby Is, a memoir from her own single pregnancy, which is soon to be released. I was given the honor of previewing her book, and I highly recommend this book to other women who are facing pregnancy without a partner.
