Life Planning Establish and build your career You will probably find that your child’s third year of life is a good time to start dedicating more time to finishing that degree you started, upgrading your job, or taking your favorite hobby and turning it into a part-time (or better) business. These goals will be attainable if you have 1) been a dependable employee 2) continued chipping away at your educational goals 3) explored income potential for your hobbies, and 4) learned how to use your computer for research, marketing, networking, communication, and advertising. Don’t put pressure on yourself to upgrade your responsibilities if you are happy where you are in your economic life, and make sure your ladder is sturdy before you start to climb (in other words, don’t give a two-weeks notice at your nine-to-five job to delve into a get-rich scheme or start a business with no experience or client referrals); but if the waters are safe and warm (and if you’ve followed my advice they should be), and are beckoning you to distant shores, then it’s time to start swimming. Go out on interviews, start building a clientele for a business you want to phase in, put the master plan in motion, and make that change. |
